Witches Hat Giftbox Tutorial

As most of you know, I created a pretty cool witches hat giftbox for Echo park’s CHA summer 2011 booth! It got GREAT feedback and I figured that I would get this tutorial done for you all so you can try to make it yourselves!

It’s a lot of fun and not that much work! I made a video for the hat part since it’s easier to show in a in a video than to explain picture by picture. First, I will expalin everything else, and then add in the video for the hat at the end!

Photobucket

SUPPLIES -

  • Hot glue
  • Glue
  • Vintage crinkle ribbon. Mine is from HERE I used ‘almost black’ and ‘steel’
  • Apothecary paper kit from Echo Park Paper Co.
  • Ultra fine glitter (black and a dark grey)
  • 20G Jewelry wire in black
  • Ink in dark grey and black.
  • Black eyelets
  • Paper mache’ cone/cardboard cone at 4″ diameter.

SVG Collections needed (you can always make this without SVG’s)

SCAL/MTC basic shapes

  • Circle cut at 9″
  • 3 rectangle shapes at 1.50″h and 10.00″w

MISC.

  • Bats.. I found a FREE SVG file, however I can’t seem to find it again. Happy Hauntings cartridge has one as well!

1). Make the big boutique box. You will want to use the Square flat trio LARGEST one. Cut as sized in SCAL. (if you want to make your own box make it 11×11″ or larger.

2). The label was different on my original, but you can use the label from SVG Cuts Strawberry lane colelction. file is: label1_bottom.svg cut at 3.00w

3). 3D flower from SVG Cuts is in the ‘extras’ folder. File is: 28.svg sized in layers from 3.00w to 1.25w. Crickle and ink edges, etc.

Design Tips:

  • Add ink.. ALL OVER, lol. Inking add SO much!
  • Add the sticker from the collection kit to the hat!
  • Glitter the bats and web trims. I brushed on Mod Podge and then sprinkled away! The web was done in black and the bats were done in a dark grey. I used Recollections brand glitter which works GREAT!
  • Add eyelets and crinkle ribbon to the tag on the front. Add a name, etc. or stickers like I did!

Time for the videos! This will show you how to make the hat and assemble. Once the hat it done you just stick it onto the box!

I kept my face out of this video, so you get to stare at my sausage fingers! LOL! I’m not feeling very well, so I didn’t want to put on makeup or do my hair, lol. I had to break the video up into 3 parts, and they are each about 8mins long.

***Grrrr… for some reason the sound is ahead of the actual video. Sorry, not sure why it’s like that? I need to figure out this whole You Tube junk! or maybe it’s just me?.. It seems to lag about 15-20 seconds? ***

Video 1: You Tube link (may be better quality?) And yes, I totally give you all the finger, egh.. sorry, lol.. it was obviously an accident!

Video 2 – You Tube Link

Video 3 – You Tube Link

OK, that’s it, enjoy!! Hopefully the lagging isn’t too bad?… Any questions, just ask in a comment and I will reply in the comments for you!

Cute Wall Decoration – Right at Home Scrapbooking project!

It’s me again!!

Here is a project created for Right at Home Scrapbooking! I worked with some paper from Echo Park’s Playground collection. I love these papers.. I will do another project using them soon, as I have plenty left!

I rarely ever make anything boyish, so I decided to make my son this cute wall/door hanging decoration for his room! If you want all the details you can get them HERE. You will need SCAL or MTC and the SVG Cuts Jonathan’s Bears Collection

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Simple and cute, right?! My son loves it! Be sure to swing on over to RAH’s blog for details!! You can take this basic idea and make party signs, etc.!

Anyhow, I have been so busy lately! (crafting, of course) and this is what happens with 4 days straight of paper crafting and me just tossing things to the side to pick up later (ahem.. more like try and ignore it all ’til it get’s outta control! LOL!)

Photobucket

It will have to wait another day.. No time today to clean it. My ‘baby’ is 8.. ack, 8.. EIGHT!!!! Lordy, she is growing so fast! I swear it was JUST her 7th birthday, like.. last month? lol. We’re having a small celebration at home with cake and some presents (I have GOT to share with you this amazing deal I got on her gifts!) then, in May we’re heading to Disneyland for a few days! Whoo-hoo! It will be my sons first time going!

OK, my crafty peeps.. I will talk to you all later! I’ve got a project to work on tomorrow for Fantabulous Cricut! Not quite sure what I am doing yet, but I am really hoping to start on it tonight.

Ch-ch- ch-chain of heeeeearts…. ooooh..ooooh.

*I was singing to myself as I wrote my title*

Sooooo… want to make a super cute and easy Valentine’s Day decoration? (I am pretty sure I’ve mentioned in my blog a time or two that I am sick of Valentine’s Day crafts.. but.. I lied.) This is something the kiddos will totally enjoy making.. I think so anyways, lol. My girls are at school and Austin would just eat the tape, glue, and paper and then manage chop a finger off somehow… so…yeah. I had fun making this!

And the best part? Ya don’t even need a Cricut! (But, you should get one.. because it’s awesome!) You can just cut out 9″ long strips at 1/2″ wide and there ya go.

But… for my Cricut peeps that have SCAL (or something of the sort) you can get this done a lot faster! And since I should be working on my eBay auctions instead of playing with paper, I was all about getting done fast! (I eBay my kiddos small clothes twice a year.. it’s a total pain and takes forever but I like the cash when it’s all said and done).

This is how you do this in SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) Not sure if there is a way you can do this in Design Studio or not?.. Anyhoot..

Open SCAL and open a 12×12 mat. (or 6×12 if you have a smaller Cricut) and go to your shapes window (Window>Shapes) and select the rectangle. In properties uncheck ‘Keep Proportions’ and enter 9.000 wide and .500 high. Fill up your mat with as many as you can (copy paste) and then you are ready to cut!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Cut as many colors as you’d like..

Man.. I really wish I had a Starbucks coffee right now.. random, I know.. but yikes I got a craving!.

OK, now fold your strips in half.. like so.

Photobucket

(this is where I would like two extra hands to take pictures to show you all… but, I don’t.. ) You need to fold the two ends in to form a heart shape. Use glue if you want.. but it slows ya down having to hold them to dry.. or, you can whip out your hair clips like I do..

Photobucket

But, even that gets irritating. Get yourself some double sided tape. Works wonders and holds it really well! :) Then get busy making your chain! If you’re like me you will forget to attach a heart or two.. or 7 *ahem* to your chain before you tape it. Then you will grumble to yourself how dumb you are and then think you can take it apart to save your paper heart.. and nope.. it rips.. then you remind yourself how dumb you are.. again.

Not saying that happened or anything.. *whistles*

TA-DA!!!! Are you impressed? Yes, I know you are!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Cute.. easy… If you have your kiddos make it then it will keep them outta your hair for a good 10-15 minutes (score!) Have fun with it!

4 cartridges….. One super cute little table decoration!

…….. Now, before I show you pictures of my newest project I have to say hello to ALL my new followers and Facebook friends! I logged into my email to a bunch of blog comments, new followers and my Facebook ‘likes’ grew overnight. I was wondering what the heck happened. So, I logged into my blog to see nearly 4000 hits *thud*……

“I’m under attack!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!”

LOL!

One of my commenters said she found me from the Cricut newsletter.. say what?! After doing some poking around, there I was! In the ‘Cricut Chirp’ with MY photo shown with a link to one of my message board posts (I shared my valentine boxes) I couldn’t believe it! Little ol’ me.. CHECK IT OUT!

Tee-hee… I’m a soupa-star, baby! lol j/k….

Anyhow… want to see my super-dooper cute spring table decoration?! Yes, I know.. spring? What the hey?! Aren’t we in the midde of winter? Why yes, yes we are. BUT, I was getting tired of Valentine’s projects.. Well, that was until SVG Cuts released THIS collection.. (Cute, right?! Of course! I mean, how can you look at that and not want to make all 3 of them?) But yeah.. where was I going with this?… Um.

Ah yes, I was tired of Valentine’s projects so I decided to do something springy and cute with some of my favorite paper from Echo Park.

Wanna see?….

Carts Used – Forever Young (FY) : Create a Critter (CaC) : Straight From The Nest (SFTN) :Tags, bags, boxes and more (TBB&M).

Paper used – Echo Park (LOVE!) Collection : Walk in the Park.

Items Needed – 3d glue dots, chalk or ink, a popsicle stick, styrofoam squares, toothpicks, 20 gauge jewelry wire (I used blue), hot glue, buttons, paper thread (found in the jewelry making section at Joanns)

Here are the cuts I used. I hope I got them all..

Box – (TBB&M) : 5 3/4″ I like to seal my boxes with Wonder Tape.

Grass (SFTN) : 2 3/4″ (Cut 8. You will cut them to fit around the styrofoam and inside a bit for more of a 3D look) Chalk/Ink the edges in a darker green.

Flower (FY) 3″ and cut circles at 1 1/4″ x5 These will be curled and make into petals. It helps to hot glue them.

Photobucket

The yellow circle will be cut at 1″. Attach a button.

Snail (CaC) : 1 1/4″

Caterpillar (CaC) : 1 3/4″

Hive (CaC) : 2 1/4″

Butterfly (CaC) : 1 3/4″

Frog (CaC) : 2″

Dragonfly (CaC) : 1 1/4″

Bird House (CaC) : – 2 1/2″

Sun (CaC) : 2 1/2″

Kite (CaC) : 3.5 or 4″ I didn’t write it down and I forgot.

Cloud (CaC) : (forgot size) and the text on the cloud was cut in SCAL.

Stem/leaves of the flower : Use a popsicle stick and hot glue paper to it. I cut my leaves in SCAL but you can just free hand cut 2 ovals.

Photobucket

When sticking your items into the styrofoam I used toothpicks (green to match the grass better) and a bit of hot glue so they stay put!

Make your box first and then attach the styrofoam with hot glue. Use two 2×4″ squares and cut them in half. You will also need to trim the side down a little.

I hope you love this little project as much as I do! Please share my blog with your crafty friends and of course, join my Facebook page!! PRETTY PLEASE?

Thanks for coming by!

Toodles!

A quick and cheap way to brighten up ANY room!

If you’re like me.. you love great things at great prices.. but, sometimes I splurge and get what I want because I can’t find it anywhere else! I redecorated my youngest daughter’s room in this adorable set from Pottery Barn Kids. I LOVE owls, tree, birds.. flowers! So cute! I searched high and low for some cute butterflies to match because I really didn’t want to spend about $30.00 on a set of 12 paper butterflies! (This was before my Cricut days) Well, no can do.. I caved and bought them! They do look great on the walls!

Photobucket

Someone on a message board I am on saw these in a post about girls rooms, asked me where I found them. I looked for them on Pottery Barn’s website and they don’t have them for sale anymore.

Anyhow.. on to the other night. I was crafting and used a little butterfly from SVG Cut’s Breezy meadow Butterflies Collection and I thought.. Oh WOW!! Ummm, hello!? WALL ART Pottery Barn style! I’ve made butterflies for the wall before with a cartridge but they were small because it was 3 on a 12×12 page (This was before I knew what Sure Cuts A Lot was). Nothing like the gorgeous designs Mary at SVG Cuts created! I love the shape of them. In the SVG collection there are several shapes you can use. I only used the bottom files to make a blackout pretty much. And well.. lookie here!

Photobucket

And this is what PB’s look like.

Photobucket

Let’s see… make your own to match your space for about $9.99 for a huge stack of cardstock (I used DCWV’s Citrus stack) OR use PB’s set of 12 and only about half of them matched the room.. and they cost about $30.00! Yeah.. it’s a no-brainer! (well, unless you don’t have a Cricut… if that’s the case, what are you waiting for?! lol)

Cut out your files. I did my two large ones at 11″ wide. The small one is 8″ wide. Score them along the side of the butterfly’s body.

Photobucket

I use this adhesive. It’s VERY strong. If you rather not have them so permanent, use a wall putty! Bend the wings up slightly.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Voila’! Super cute… super easy.. super cheap!

Photobucket

Photobucket

You likey? I sure hope so!

Before I go… I got a little package today! New Cuttlebug folders! Yeah!! One of the sets matches my Robots Cricut cartridge so it will come in handy when making Austin’s birthday party decorations! I also got some stamp blocks! Joanns had a great little sale going on so I got some good deals!

Photobucket

Happy crafting, friends!

Germs are amoung us..

And they need to go away!

I’ve been a Lysol freak the past few days.. and it’s not working.

I caught this nasty head cold from who knows where. With my constant trips to Michaels lately, I’d bet it’s from some sick kid sneezing on some stacks of paper or ornaments.. bleh! LOL!

I THINK I will be well tomorrow. Maybe. Who really knows?… My husband has worked all weekend (16 hour shifts) and of course, I am sick and he is not home to help me. Moms are not allowed to get sick, right? If I get sick I can not lay in bed whining and moaning about a little stuffy nose that is ‘killing me’ (Like some handsome grown man I know.. and live with.. that I’m married to…).. *sigh* My kids are non-stop so any chance I had to sit down and just chill.. it quickly ended by a fight between my girls, my over dramatic 7 year old daughter who’s world comes to an end at least 3 times a day… The cat scratched my son.. my son licked the cat.. so and so needs a drink, snack, dinner… son needing to pee every 5 minutes! (yes, I swear he had to go to the potty waaay more than usual on my worst sick day!) My poor head was pounding! Ahhhhhh! Over it! It’s so hard to keep a happy mommy face on when I am not feeling well. And trust me, happy mommy face was long gone before I stumbled out of my room that morning!

I went to bed early last night after my day for hell.. Didn’t matter. My son woke me up TWO TIMES last night to.. yes.. go pee! What the heck? WHY?.. Can a girl just get some sleep? No, no I can’t. He then woke me up around 6:30 crying because he was SICK! Egh! It begins.. the cycle of germs! Never, ever can just one person in my house be sick. We like to share.. passin’ it around. I know my girls are bound to get sick in a day or so.. I should have started sneezing on their pillows the first day I was sick to get it over with.. You see, we have a trip to Ryan’s (hubby) parents planned this weekend for an early Christmas celebration. I have a gut feeling one.. if not TWO of us will be sick. Not good. I don’t want to go sick, either. My baby nephew will there there, my pregnant sister-in-law and the rest of the bunch. I don’t want them to be sick for actual Christmas day!

Hopefully I will be 100% tomorrow. I really need to get started on some baking. *fingers crossed* Right now I have a slight stuffy nose, itchy cough and a headache… wanna kiss?, LOL!

On a side note.. I crafted a bit the other day! Instead of feeling sorry for myself having some germies.. I took some DayQuil and got busy making some yarn trees!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Cuuuute! I love my little trees! They match my new decorations perfectly!

Now, with touching the pretty soft yarn.. and for the first time ever, going down the yarn isles.. I fell in love! I now have an urge to learn to knit! I have been looking at some videos and an online forum I found. Seems complicated, LOL! But, I need to remind myself I say that about every thing I start for the first time. After Christmas is done I plan to pick up some supplies and try to make something. I will probably start with a scarf. *shrugs*

Anyhow.. gotta go! I’m going to snort some Afrin and go to bed!

Fantabulous Free File Friday

Three days late! I just started this last week and I am already slackin’..

Anyhow, this one is super cute and so easy!

You will need a paper or styrofoam cone shape. I found some paper ones on sale at Michaels this week! You will also want to use a hot glue gun. The glittered star on top was a whole $1.00 from Walmart.

You can find the SVG files on Crate Paper’s Blog! (large, small and medium petals)

Cut ‘em all out and start glueing! Instead of wrapping each petal around a pencil like shown.. I stacked 10 at a time and curved them around my finger all at once.. much faster! ;)

Here is my finished masterpiece! (Paper is DCWV ‘Tis the season (my new favorite! So pretty!)

Photobucket

Photobucket

I also got some new goodies this week for my New for me Monday post.. which will also be late, lol.. Maybe I will just combine it all with next weeks. Ahhh, holidays taken up my time!

I am going to make a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting tomorrow.. Mmm.. (Maybe?.. lol.. I am not much of a pumpkin/spice fan)

I will catch up soon! You all have a great Thanksgiving!

ive Thanks…..

Yes.. ‘ive Thanks!’

I made some Thanksgiving decorations for my mom and with that I made some wood blocks for her covered in some pretty fall paper! On one side it says ‘Thanks’….

Photobucket

Pretty right? :) And the other side.. well, the other side was suppose to say ‘Give’ But, because I wasn’t paying attention.. and it was the last block I made.. it looks like it says ‘ive’..

Photobucket

Egh! Shame on me! Brown on brown… really, Tamara?! I should have made another block but, I was tired and my mom seemed like she didn’t mind so.. ehhh.. oh well.. If these were mine it would bug the crud outta me! All in all they are pretty cute though and will look fabulous on her table this Thanksgiving.. along with THESE…

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Annnnnd.. this….

Photobucket

And of course she needs the matching banner I made!

Photobucket

I can’t wait to see it all set up!

You can find the files used on most of these items at the fabulous SVGCUTS.COM

Most the paper used is DCWV ‘Amber Autumn’ stacks! (Found at Joann’s!) And then I used the ‘neutrals’ stack by DCWV!

The turkey that is used on the placecards is the cute little guy from the Create a Critter cartridge!

All we need is a yummy Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixin’s.. Mmmmm! I can’t wait!

Photobucket

I will post my New for me Monday soon… I am waiting for the mail to come ;) It might be a bit later, I am shampooing the carpets today (well, starting on them! It will probably take a few days). I like to do them every year.. and.. it’s been TWO!

OK.. TTYL!

Fabulous Free File Friday! #1

Today (Well, tomorrow.. but I am posting this late Thursday night..) is my first Fabulous Free File Friday! *yippie!* (and que the confetti rockets!) Exciting, right?… sorta. Least it’s a cute one to kick off! A cute little turkey decoration! I spruced it up a bit by using different papers for the feathers, adding some ink and I also stitched with embroidery thread! It doesn’t stand up to well so it does have a piece of tape in the back. Next time I will cut TWO of the turkey bodies and double them up for stability.

Let the turkey trot BEGIN!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

That’s a mighty fine turkey!

I did make him larger… I increased the size so the entire cut file almost fit my 12×12 mat. I also broke it apart and moved things around because they were kinda scattered.. I just wanted to make it easier for me to lay out my paper. Worked great and cut perfect!

Do you wanna make a super cute FREE turkey decoration? Maybe have the kiddos decorate them? You can break it apart and cut all the files one by one and make it super large.. and on the ‘feathers’ have the kids write what they are thankful for! (I am totally stealing my own idea!.. good job, Tamara!) *virtual high-five for me!*

Photobucket

Oh.. yeah… the link to the file might help! Go to PAPER, SCISSORS, INK for the cute turkey!

I hope you like this little treasure I found!

Be ‘Merry’ with these cute Christmas blocks!

I love these! This was my first time using Mod Podge and I am loving it! I can already see myself trying to Mod Podge everything, LOL! Hubby cut these blocks for me and they are a little bit too big. These are 3.5×4″ and I think I will stick to 3×3 and 2×2 for larger words/sayings.

I am making some more tomorrow!

I know I posted earlier.. but the cute paper set is from My Mind’s Eye Love them!!
