Boredom strikes again!

And instead of washing dishes or doing the two loads of laundry waiting for me, I find something to craft instead! Don’t judge me.. you know you all do the same thing! For what it’s worth, I did try to do something with the kiddos, but they were watching a movie on TV and wanted nothing to do with me… *sniffle*.

HA! Sniffle nothin’… I was like, “Whoa, kiddos are entertained and DON’T want me within 2 feet of them for once?.. You bet your glue sticks I ran to my craft area and got busy!

I wasn’t in the mood for all sorts of paper piecing.. I’m saving my crafty juices for the new Echo Park kits that are on their way to my house! I have to whip up 3 projects by the 19th, which won’t be a problem.. I might even do more! But one of them is pretty detailed, so I don’t want to exhaust my poor fingers…. I know, dramatic, right?… LOL. Really, I was just too lazy…

So, my poor lil’ Silly-butt (Silhouette) has been sitting there sulking on my table wondering why she’s being ignored lately. I decided to show the Silly-butt some love and do some print and cut stuff. And my most favoritest (Yes, that’s a word, because I said so.. And so does the ‘urban dictionary’.. LOL) place to go for graphic cuteness is Lettering Delights. *swoon*

I picked up the Pucker Up Birthday graphic set and the Pucker Up Paper Pack! You HAVE to browse their pretties! SO many cute cut files, graphics and fonts!

Anyhow, I decide to make a party giftbag and hat! Yes, random party stuff.. fun! I was going to make a little giftbox and a couple cupcake toppers, but my printer is pretty much out of ink and of course I don’t have any on hand, egh. Story of my life, always out of something! I really need a huge craft space with lots of storage so I can buy loads of things and stock up! Hmm.. I wonder if hubby really needs that silly ol’ garage?.. GAH! Could you imagine a crafty space as large as a two car garage? I’m smiling like a total goober right now thinking about it.. And while we’re on this subject, I don’t think we really use our master bedroom much so, hmmm.. LOL! I can have the first craft room with a huge bed in it, I mean, crafting can be exhausting, right?

Doh! Rambling, sorry.. lol. If you come to my blog often, you’re probably use to it.

So, yeah.. I made a party bag and hat!

TA-DA!

Photobucket

I noticed the shirt my son was wearing kinda matched the bag/hat, so I got him in for a few pictures. I was surprised how excited he was. Like.. hand clapping and a big “YAY!” and all.. Hmmm.. SOMETHING was up…

Photobucket

I got a few good pictures of him wearing the hat and holding the bag… then I realized why he was so excited to take pictures for me… bless his little heart, he thought he was getting a real present from me.. yeah, I know.. jerk mom alert! He said, “Can I open it now, pleeease?!”.. I said, ” Baby, it’s just a bag.. nothing inside” Ooooooh…. The look on his face, “Nothing?” looks inside… “Oh..”

Photobucket

*hand to forehead*.. sorry little dude, mommy owes you a Hot Wheels next trip to the store!.. Maybe a 5 pack. In the meantime, to make up for it, I am making him a big Buzz Lightyear diecut from my Cricut Cartridge to plaster on his wall! And yes, he totally needs a date with some hair clippers!

Here’s some more pictures and details!

  • Party hat is a FREE SVG file from SVG CUTS BLOG!
  • Bag is also from SVG Cuts – The Vintage Halloween bags! It’s a great size for a few little gifts.
  • As mentioned above, my graphics and digital paper are from Lettering Delights!
  • I used the Silhouette print and cut feature with my graphics. So fun! I just wish my printer would have printed that pretty teal color better. Maybe I can adjust it?..
  • Other ideas include: birthday banner, cupcake toppers/wrappers, invitations, cards, giftbox, treat bag toppers and more.. You can make a whole party! Maybe after I get more ink I will make a whole matching party set to share! That would be fun!

I hope you all like it!

And on a side note.. my new blog design should be up soon at happylifecraftywife.com! YAY! I am going to have a modern and clean looking blog and I can not wait! The template gets installed tomorrow and then gets tweaked and customized from there!

See ya!

Witches Hat Giftbox Tutorial

As most of you know, I created a pretty cool witches hat giftbox for Echo park’s CHA summer 2011 booth! It got GREAT feedback and I figured that I would get this tutorial done for you all so you can try to make it yourselves!

It’s a lot of fun and not that much work! I made a video for the hat part since it’s easier to show in a in a video than to explain picture by picture. First, I will expalin everything else, and then add in the video for the hat at the end!

SUPPLIES -

  • Hot glue
  • Glue
  • Vintage crinkle ribbon. Mine is from HERE I used ‘almost black’ and ‘steel’
  • Apothecary paper kit from Echo Park Paper Co.
  • Ultra fine glitter (black and a dark grey)
  • 20G Jewelry wire in black
  • Ink in dark grey and black.
  • Black eyelets
  • Paper mache’ cone/cardboard cone at 4″ diameter.

SVG Collections needed (you can always make this without SVG’s)

SCAL/MTC basic shapes

  • Circle cut at 9″
  • 3 rectangle shapes at 1.50″h and 10.00″w

MISC.

  • Bats.. I found a FREE SVG file, however I can’t seem to find it again. Happy Hauntings cartridge has one as well!

1). Make the big boutique box. You will want to use the Square flat trio LARGEST one. Cut as sized in SCAL. (if you want to make your own box make it 11×11″ or larger.

2). The label was different on my original, but you can use the label from SVG Cuts Strawberry lane colelction. file is: label1_bottom.svg cut at 3.00w

3). 3D flower from SVG Cuts is in the ‘extras’ folder. File is: 28.svg sized in layers from 3.00w to 1.25w. Crickle and ink edges, etc.

Design Tips:

  • Add ink.. ALL OVER, lol. Inking add SO much!
  • Add the sticker from the collection kit to the hat!
  • Glitter the bats and web trims. I brushed on Mod Podge and then sprinkled away! The web was done in black and the bats were done in a dark grey. I used Recollections brand glitter which works GREAT!
  • Add eyelets and crinkle ribbon to the tag on the front. Add a name, etc. or stickers like I did!

Time for the videos! This will show you how to make the hat and assemble. Once the hat it done you just stick it onto the box!

I kept my face out of this video, so you get to stare at my sausage fingers! LOL! I’m not feeling very well, so I didn’t want to put on makeup or do my hair, lol. I had to break the video up into 3 parts, and they are each about 8mins long.

***Grrrr… for some reason the sound is ahead of the actual video. Sorry, not sure why it’s like that? I need to figure out this whole You Tube junk! or maybe it’s just me?.. It seems to lag about 15-20 seconds? ***

Video 1: You Tube link (may be better quality?) And yes, I totally give you all the finger, egh.. sorry, lol.. it was obviously an accident!

Video 2 – You Tube Link

Video 3 – You Tube Link

OK, that’s it, enjoy!! Hopefully the lagging isn’t too bad?… Any questions, just ask in a comment and I will reply in the comments for you!

Sew Easy.. Sorta??…

Hello, friends!

You might have seen on my Facebook Page that I got the Sew Easy recently.. as in.. all of it, lol! (I had a feeling I would love it!) Here’s the loot! Look at all those pretty colors!

Photobucket

I was finally able to open it all up and get to playin’! Since my brain is in Halloween mode, I made a little Halloween giftbag! I didn’t spend too much time on it, since I have to get my blogiversary projects done. I do love the way it came out! I wanted to add a tag and other little things, maybe later.

Here it is! My first project using the Sew Easy!

Photobucket

I’ve been adding eyelets to anything I can lately.. :) Photobucket

Photobucket

I picked up these little wood stars at Michaels the other day, wasn’t sure what I would do with them at first. I think they are great for Halloween projects! I inked them up and hot glued them onto wire.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Yep, the stitching is a bit crooked on one side. That was the very first side I did and kinda messed up. I already had it inked with the jack-o-lantern face on it, so I didn’t want to start over. It doesn’t look too bad though.

A few thoughts on this product..

If you don’t know certain stitches you might have to do a little research on the stitch you’re trying to do. Like this one, called a blanket stitch. It’s a little time consuming until you get the hang of it. I know how to blanket stitch by hand, but on the paper and how the stitch was done on the paper (not right on the edge) it took a little figuring out. I just sat in my recliner and hand stitched it, it was relaxing actually!

NO, this does not come out like something would from a sewing machine. These are embroidery flosses! I actually like it because it stands out more.

The mat is a MUST HAVE! You need a bit of pressure to pierce through the paper, especially thicker paper like AC cardstock.

But yeah, super fun and easy to use if you are familiar with the more difficult stitches… if not, You Tube would be helpful!

I’ve got several more ideas already.. like little stocking cards around Christmas, etc. I might get creative and stitch on names!

I hope you all like my little bag! Now time for me to get over to You Tube and see if my videos for my Echo Park witch hat box are ready for you all! (they were lagging a bit, grrr..)

Talk to you all soon!

The 19th is here.. You know what that means! CHA REVEALS!!!!!

Today is the day I get to share my CHA Echo Park booth projects with you all! Yes, I have been talking about it a lot on my FACEBOOK PAGE and now I can stop yappin’ about it and actually show you all! After I tell you all a little story..

I was contacted on July 6th asking if I would be able to design some projects for Echo Park Paper to show at CHA… I wish you all could have seen my face when I read that email! I was SO stinkin’ excited and could not believe they would contact ME, let alone read my blog.. I mean, who am I?…

I replied back saying I would.. I mean, WHO would turn that down? A crazy person, that’s who! Then, before I heard back about my deadline, I thought to myself, “Gee, isn’t CHA THIS month?”.. Ummm, yeah. *panic begins to set in*…. I was told that they needed my projects by the 14th.. *gulp*… AND they still needed to ship me the paper! *double gulp*…. I told myself, “You’ve got this, Tamara!”… (I really did say that…. Psssh! Don’t try to pretend you don’t talk to yourself!) So, I got a big box of awesomeness on July 8th in the evening and immediately got busy! As soon as I saw the GORGEOUS paper I was inspired to create! In TWO FULL DAYS I got done.. I was pretty amazed! I shipped them all out on July 11th.. which is an AMAZING day for me.. Not only did I get done super fast and knew my projects would arrive in time, but that evening I was asked to be on their in house design team!

Just imagine, if you will, a crazy woman running through the house screaming like a half pig, half duck.. being strangled. Kinda like, “Quuuuuack.. ah-ah-ah-ah *gasp*..snort, ah- *gasp* ah-ahhhh-.. Quuuuack”.. “Snort”…

My husband asked what my problem was.. and you know what?.. If HE thinks I’m having an ‘issue’ then it’s seriously disturbing!

So yeah, I am excited to say the least! It’s a lot different than any other DT I’ve ever been on and I don’t want to get into too many details, but it’s super-doooper! If you want to meet the other SUPER talented design team members, head on over to the BLOG!

And you get something out of it too.. what?.. PAPER KIT GIVEAWAY’S! Yes, I will be giving away some of the newest kits here on my good ol’ blogity-blog here and there! Yeah, buddy! And I get to give one away NOW!! (See below my projects for details!)

OK.. now that I got that outta my system, time for CHA projects and to get down to business!

*breathe in.. breathe out*…. (Seriously, I’m such a child! I feel like such a celebrity right now… LOL! )

So, first off, if you’re not already following Echo Park’s BLOG or ‘like’ their Facebook Page, then you might have missed out on peeks of some bea-U-tiful new lines! I’m talking about Victoria Gardens and Apothecary Emporium! “Hellooo000oo, GORGEOUS!”

Photobucket  Photobucket <~~~~~~ LOVE!

These were two of the three lines I got to work with! I knew right when I saw Apothecary Emporium on Facebook that I wanted to make some test tube type of project with them. I had two tubes laying around and decided to make my own SVG file to hold them (which will be a free download during my Blogiversary Bash) and decorate it with the cool stickers that come in the kit! I will admit, I don’t usually use stickers, just never really thought to. But these were SO fun!

Photobucket

Photobucket

I used a lot of pewter ink from Color Box! A great color for Halloween stuff (So is black, white and silver!)

Photobucket

Those little stickers fit just right on top of the test tubes!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I stuck some of the stickers on cardstock and cut them out. I then distressed and inked the edges. You can do so much with these stickers alone! These would be great with some Reese’s Pieces or black and orange jelly beans in them! The twine shown is from the awesome Trendy Twine! How awesome is that black and orange?! I think it’s a limited edition, so you might want to go snag some while you can! Go like her Facebook page and let her know I sent ya!

Think that’s neat? Well, this is my FAVORITE! I had visions of doing something like this since LAST Halloween when I first started crafting, I just had no idea where to start! I tackled this and LOVE how it came out. I was sad to ship this one off, for sure! I will have to make another one!.. or at least the hat! The hat is a paper mache cone that I got wet and shaped at the top. I dried it and Mod Podged the paper to it!

Photobucket

Photobucket

I hope you like that vintage crinkle ribbon! I will be giving some away for my Blogiversary!

Photobucket

I used Recollections brand glitter and it works just as nicely as the Martha Stewart stuff…

Photobucket

Photobucket

The photo above shows how I added glitter to the wire holding the bats. It looks awesome in person with black and silver glitter on various elements!

Photobucket

Photobucket

I will share tips on how I made this in the next few days! :) It’s a lot of fun!

Next up, is the Victoria Gardens collection. When I first saw this I had so many ideas coming to me and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. Then, I remembered a PDF file I saw awhile back to make a very small carousel.. that was it! I HAD to make a vintage looking paper carousel! The PDF was way too small to make any sort of template from so I created my own files in Sure Cuts a Lot from the basic shapes library and a mix of SVG files and created this…

Photobucket

Can I just say I am dang proud of this beauty!? It’s a GIFT BOX! The top section and bottom section are both boxes. I built this thing as if I was building myself a house! lol.. I was very careful with placement and measurements. The center column is stuffed with packing paper and dowel rods for support. I actually had a lot more flowers and things cut out and realized if I went ‘overboard’ it would have been too much since it was such a large piece as is. Again…. 98% of this was made with the SCAL basic shapes library! I will share more about how I made this in a few days.

Photobucket

Don’t those papers totally MAKE the project?.. That roof was a total pain to make! I had to use some rusty math skills to create it!

And, last but not least! The ‘secret’ paper I got to work with! Happy Days… how fun and cute are these papers?

Photobucket

I decided to go fairly simple with a neat 3D project. Sadly, I didn’t get very many photos of this since I got sidetracked and then ran out of time. When I saw these papers I immediately thought ‘diner’.. So, I made an ‘EAT’ sign with 3D letters!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

The dice were a last minute add for that extra something special. You can make a menu and use this to hold it, cool, huh?! Most of this project is made from files at SVG Cuts!

Photobucket

And there you have it! Again, I worked so hard on these! Most of you who read my blog know I love to make 3D projects… and that hat box and carousel really show ‘me’. I don’t usually have time to go all out like I like to.. I hope I got a few of you to say, “WOW!”.. :) I had so much fun working on these! I love starting a project and just going for it! And then to be picked up for Echo Park’s design team after all this! I am truly blessed! This past *almost* first year of paper crafting has been AMAZING for me!

Now, for my giveaway…

Wait, did I mention I am now on ECHO PARK PAPER’S DESIGN TEAM??!!… I did? Oh, well.. in case you forgot or something.. *wink*

4th of July… ALREADY?

I really can’t believe how fast this summer.. well, this YEAR is going by! Before I know it, I’m going to be shopping for Christmas presents!

I am already short on time to make the decorations I wanted. As soon as I saw the SVG Cuts USA collection, I knew I’d make everything in that set! So fun! I finally started on these letters, oh boy, what a challenge! I like to think I am pretty good at figuring things out on my own, but that is so not the case. I had to make the ‘S’ 3 times before it was perfect! First time, I didn’t watch the video.. second time it looked like my 3yo son made it.. third time, I got it! You really have to be patient and work slowly. I made the ‘A’ first, which was super easy.. so I kinda though that this whole project would be easy peasy. I plan on making letters for my kiddos rooms with their 3D Letters set… Alannah, Autumn and AuStin… Something tells me Austin might get left out, LOL!

Anyhow, I will share the banner and such when it’s done… but for now, here are my USA letters. I did it a bit differently than SVG Cuts has it. I LOVE the children silhouette so I used that. Plus, I added some ‘fireworks’. I actually planned to add a little more, but I think this is enough. If I added anymore it would just be too much.

Photobucket

Photobucket

The ‘fireworks’ were made by poking little holes through the top with a craft knife and twisting jewelry wire a bit and then adding on the stars, which are in the eCal or MTC shapes library. Put some hot glue on the end of the wire and stick it through the hole. Hold it for a bit while it cools. If you make the holes too big, it won’t work.

Photobucket

I really like the brown inking with this! Gives it a more vintage look!

Photobucket

After I made this I wished I had edited the SVG file and welded on one more girl to make my 3 kiddos.. darn!

Photobucket

Photobucket

You likey? I kept everything as sized when opened in SCAL. Even the children silhouette from the card file! The star fireworks are all cut at 1.25, 1.00, .85 and .70″..

Oh, and the paper is ‘Americana’ by K&Company! Love it!

I hope you all are having a great week!

Toodles!

Welcome to the Summer SVG Shindig!

My first Silhouette project!

Happy Saturday!

I got a chance to play around with the Silhouette a bit more! I made a simple card with some cute sea critters from the Silhouette store! Nothing too exciting, but the cuts are super cute! No sentiment or anything.. mainly because I didn’t have a stamp that would work well with this card. Looks like someone needs to go SHOPPING!

Here it is!

It was kind of a rush job.. afterall, my mom is here visiting for the weekend so I didn’t want to sit over here too long ;)

Here are the files I used:

Next time I will keep track of sizes and details to share so you all can replicate something if you’d like! This was simply a post just to share! I have found the Silhouette software very easy to use!

Toodles!

“Tamara, seriously.. Create a Critter AGAIN?!”

Yup.. again.

I big pink fluffy heart LOVE them dern critters!

I had some styrofoam balls laying around and decided to do something with them. I decided to make a cute little tree for no reason at all, just for fun!

Photobucket

After I made it, I thought.. wow, that looks weird, LOL! It needs a branch or something…. and it’s pretty heavy for a ‘paper’ project because of the styrofoam and hot glue all over it. My son thinks it’s a bat! he whacked himself in the head with it! LOL!

Photobucket

The tree needed something… anything, really. It was kinda lame by itself.. I mean, it would look CUTE in my daughter’s owl themed room! Too bad the color’s don’t match. I decided to pull out the good ol’ Create a Citter and make some animals treat bags like my Springtime Buddies that I made awhile ago. I do love those little bags! I decided to go with a fall theme (Hello…..! Can we get through spring and summer first!?) I know, fall, really?… But look how cute!

Photobucket

The little fox makes me smile.. so cute!

This would be great for birthday party favors! Well, if a tree and animals fit your theme! Jungle theme? Fun stuff!

And now for more pictures.. what? Did you think you could get away with only a few photos from me? Ha! You sooo cra-zay!

Photobucket

You might have noticed that not all my critters are ‘decapitated’.. sometimes it just won’t work out for that particular die cut, so you can just adhere the bottom half of your critter to the bag.. OR, you can glue it to the back of the bag instead. For this project, only my raccoon worked.

Umm….. Yes, I have issues.. and my son asked me for a dinosaur! So.. Mr. Dino joined the Fall Friends party!

“Awwww.. that’s cute”…

I know.. I know.. I couldn’t help it. That’s my dark side coming out… and it made my kids laugh!

Create a Critter, Straight From The Nest, and Forever Young cartridges and this file created by moi! Download 1springtime_buddies_bag_HappyLifeCraftyWife This is an SVG file. Open it and just cut away! to make this to my sizing, set this to cut at 9.630 WIDE. Make sure ‘Keep Proportions’ is checked. (If you have problems downloading it, email me with my contact link over there to the right… and I will send you the file!) Typepad download is wonky sometimes!

*** If you use my SCAL file and share anything you made with my file PLEASE link back to my blog. Do not post the file on your website/blog.. simply link back to this post. Thank ya! ***

For the tree.. get a 3″ strofoam ball and a hot glue gun! The leaves are all cut from SFTN from ‘branch 1′ cut at 2 3/4″. Cut a bunch.. I think I cut them 35 times? Glue them all over your ball, and burn your fingers while doing it.. I did it several times!

After that cut flowers from the shadow of ‘flower 5′ on FY. I cut 3 for each flower sized at 1 1/4″, 1″ and 3/4″. Layer them and fold the petals up. I made 6 of them for my tree.

The base of the tree is a rectangle rolled up and glued to the bottom. I did this before I added the leaves.

Photobucket

That’s it for the tree! Please see THIS POST on how to make the bags with animals!

Here are the sizes for the animals I used:

Fox – 3 1/2″

Owl – 3 1/2″

Squirrel – 3 3/4″

‘coon – 4″

Dinosaur – 10″

What? You don’t want to add the dinosaur? Psssh! You’re no fun! *wink*

Happy crafting!! You all might be seeing some changes to the blog soon.. I’m ready for some fun summer colors! Yay!

Toodles!

Father’s Day project for RAH Scrapbooking!… And some happenings with me..

Hey all! Are you having a great week so far? Mine has been a little stressful.. but good! The weather is beautiful (well, not for two days there, but the nice weather is back!) I’m ready for summer nights and relaxing outside!

Well, Father’s Day is coming up and I’ve been thinking of a few Father’s Day gift ideas.. with paper, of course!

I created this neat-o workbench for Right at Home Scrapbooking. It doubles as a small giftbox and a card! Thanks to the amazing Thienly for the inspiration with her teacher’s desk!

Here it is! I didn’t add anything to the card area yet.. or the drawers.

Now… my news.  No.. I am not joining another design team, seems like everytime I say I have ‘news’ or an ‘announcement’ it ends up being another DT, LOL! Quite the opposite, actually. I’ve left the SVG Cuts design team. There was a bit of a conflict with an upcoming business venture of mine (No.. I’m not going to start selling SVG files). I can’t get into details about it right now, but anyone who follows SVG Cuts and my blog will ‘get it’ in the next month or so.. I hope you all continue to follow me and my crafts.. Please stick around to see what my upcoming news will be! I’m very excited about it! Hopefully will be making the announcement in the next month or so!

Alrighty, crafty friends! I will ‘talk’ to ya later!

Teacher Book Cabinet – An SVG Cuts project!

Hey all! I wanted to share this cute little book cabinet I made! Did you know teacher appreciation week is NEXT week? All of us SVG Cuts designers made some great projects to inspire you! Now you can get busy crafting this weekend! Whoo-hoo!

I was going to keep this simple and just do books.. then, I thought a cabinet would be cute. After having it all complete (so I thought), I felt it was missing something.. so, I added a pencil holder to the side. Then… I felt the top needed something, so I threw on a lunch bag! Ta-da! I really, really loved making this and had a lot of fun with it!

OK.. now on to a pile of photos.. you know how I roll! LOL!
