Doodlebug ‘insta-life’ album! Tips & Tricks

Hello, everyone! I’m so excited to show you the start of my fun ‘insta-life’ album! Smart phone photography is so quick and easy and so ‘in’ right now along with the popular Instagram app. I love sharing my photos on Instagram (follow me at happylifecraftywife), but sometimes it’s nice to have those photos in print, right? Well, I recently ordered a Canon Selphy CP 900 and it flawlessly prints 4×4″ Instagram photos. The quality is fantastic. Now that I have all these photos in print, I need to do something with them! That’s where the ‘Project Life’ Scrapbooking style comes in. I took my Doodlebug Swimming Pool Storybook 8×8 album and decided to use it just for my Instagram prints! It’s PERFECT!!! The Doodlebug Simply Put journaling cards make this one colorful and cute album.

To personalize this album a bit I created a vinyl decal. I used a free font called ‘Lobster 1.4′. It’s one of my favorite fonts right now. I cut this decal with orange Silhouette vinyl. The vinyl went on to my Storybook album perfectly!

When you open the album you’ll see a small 4×4″ screen shot of my Instagram account. I will probably switch this out every few months and just layer them over one another to document changes in followers, my profile photos, etc.

Behind the profile screenshot I added a divider pocket that I cut with my Silhouette Cameo. Looks awesome in those cute Dooodlebug ‘Take Note’ papers, doesn’t it? The pocket holds a printed Simply Put journaling card. I added a die cut tab to it with a button.

Pull it out and here’s what you see:

(Yes, my kids love instagram, too!) Do you like look of the PRINTED journaling card? I will have a short tutorial at the end of this post to show you how I did it!

When you turn the pocket divider, you’ll come to the first page. This one has 4 pockets that are 4×4″. This is my FAVORITE layout to use. I kept this page simple with a Simply Put card and some photos with a few stickers and a penguin Doodle-Pop. I whipped this up in no time! I love that the pocket pages and Simply Put cards make it SO easy to document everyday life.

The next page is a full 8×8 sleeve. I die cut a big Instagram camera and made it ‘interactive’ by adding a Doodlebug chunky brad to the lens to turn out of the way to expose a super cute picture of my son. Fun, right?

Another turn of the page and there’s a simple divider with the title of my album, ‘insta-life’. Just a touch of Doodlebug washi tape and a homemade flair badge to match.

Now for the last page (for now). I did a little die cutting here and used a Simply Put card. For the bottom 4×6 pocket I added a Doodlebug mini note card to create a simple interactive piece. I adhered the back of the card to my paper, trimmed a small photo to fit, then added some Doodlebug twine to close it. Untie it to see the cute photo! You can do this and add some journaling inside the card. I kept it simple with a sticker.

Here’s a list of the Silhouette cutting files I used:

Now for a quick tutorial to print on your own Simply Put cards!

  • STEP 1: Create a blank page in your editing program sized roughly to the area you will want to print on. This will vary depending on the size of your cards used, graphics on the card, etc. Once you have your text perfect, print it out onto a plain white paper.
  • STEP 2: Use a bit of double sided adhesive to layer your journaling card over the printed text.
  • STEP 3: Showing the journaling card layered over text. *TIP: Holding the paper and journaling card over a light box or window will help in lining it up or you can just eye it.
  • STEP 4: PRINT! Be sure to insert your paper into your printer the correct way so it feeds properly. I may, or may not have, printed on a card upside down the first time..

That’s it! VERY easy! I personally do not care for my writing so I will print on my journaling cards anytime I can… and being I don’t have a typewriter yet, this is the best way to do it. Plus you can change up your fonts and text colors which is really fun.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this ‘insta-life’ post and leave here with several ideas on incorporating your Doodlebug Design products into your own albums!I’d LOVE to hear what you think, if you have any tips to ‘pocket style’ layouts, etc.

See ya!

Doodlebug pairs up with Kiwi Lane!

Hello, friends!

Have you noticed that the Doodlebug team has been sharing their projects this week featuring Kiwi Lane templates? The Doodlebug blog has been packed full of inspiration!

I kept it simple this week and created a little baby girl gift box topper using Doodlebug’s ‘Sugar & Spice’ collection. The gift box topper can double as a decoration, tag or a card!

I took one of the flower templates and made it into a little sun! I kept it off to the side to leave a bit of room to write a ‘To and From’ or a little note on the pink stripe paper.

I made the grass curve up a little for some dimension.. and how cute is that giraffe?

I ‘unstuck’ the clothing stickers by adding powder to the back, and then hung them onto twine. I thought this was really cute!

That’s it! I am keeping this short and sweet today! (Can’t get much ‘sweeter’ than Doodlebug, right?!)

Have a great weekend!

Altered Wooden Book Box w/ Mini Album – Carta Bella So Noted

Why, hello! *hands you a cup ‘o coffee*

I have some paper crafty goodness to share with you today.. of course. Because that’s what I normally share.

I am LOVING this project I designed for Carta Bella. The So Noted collection has got to be my favorite Carta Bella collection so far! I LOVE the vintage design and soft colors. So beautiful!

I found this wooden ‘book’ at Hobby Lobby a few months ago and it’s been hanging out waiting for the perfect papers to alter it with. When My Carta Bella DT box came I opened it up.. fondled the So Noted collection.. glanced at my wooden book… then I looked up to the heavens and said aloud, “It is time…” (in an overly dramatic voice, of course)

(I swear on my glitter stash that really happened!)

So, here’s the finished book box thingy.. a book with a drawer?.. I dunno, but it’s cute… and I swear on my Thickers stash you’ll love it. (And don’t pretend you don’t love it just to try and get ‘mah Thickers.)

My daughter looks so serious in that picture, but I love it because it is SO ‘her’.

Pull the drawer out and it perfectly fits the 4×6 journaling cards (made into a mini album)

As you can see, these patterns are stunning! I was pretty excited to find a perfectly matched seam binding to use, too! A light aqua blue. (Can’t remember where I got this one from)

You can check out THIS post on the Carta Bella blog to get the FULL supply list and design details.

I’d love to hear what you think! Do YOU prefer ‘altering’ over die cutting things like this? If you are big on die cutting you can find a 3D book cutting file from the Attic Treasures SVG Cuts Kit. Check it out and whip up your own book! If you want to alter the wood box, again, this is from Hobby Lobby (I’ve seen some at other craft stores)

OK, friends.. off ya go! Hope the rest of your week is fabulous! My next week and a half requires two dentists appointments.. GAH. Just when I was about to get Invisalign on April 12th, they find a small infection on a root canal I had done TWO years ago.. REALLY!!! I’ve been walking around with an infection for two years. How am I even alive still? Now they have to fix it up in two parts and my Invisalign impressions appointment has to be pushed back. I literally cried. I can’t win! I find out today if my insurance will even cover a re-treatment on that tooth since it’s been so long.. if not, I am out $900. Just shoot me now.. seriously. Pull all my darn teeth and slap some dentures in my face.

Done… Just D.O.N.E.

Wow.. venting much? LOL.. Ok, lovelies.. See ya! *waves*

Here’s the rest of the amazing team. The talent on this team is just crazy.. CRAZY. Be sure to go through the entire blog hop to meet everyone and see their ‘welcome’ cards. The fox.

Doodlebug ‘Take Note’ – Altered Clipboard

Lookie here! I have another Doodlebug project to share! I have been so excited to share this one. I created an altered clipboard with the fabulous ‘Take Note’ collection. I think this is my favorite from the new Doodlebug collections. The rainbow colors with touches of gray are fantastic! I love the whole ‘office’ type of theme it has.

I gotta admit, when I was making this project I was kinda worried about how it would come out. When I think ‘altered clipboard’ I think of more of a vintage style to it. But hey, it came together pretty darn cute with the bright ‘clean’ design. What do you think?

I LOVE the new mini pockets! And a mini pocket in the fabulous rainbow chevron print.. even better!

Lots of cute details here..  I layered on the paper, simply put journaling cards, stickers, doodle-pops, buttons, and some washi tape.

Be sure to stop by the Doodlebug Blog to check out the GIVEAWAY and see what the rest of the design team made! Super cute stuff, people!

Also.. although I PROMISED a new ‘What I’m Working With’ video this week… It’s not happening. *insert sad face here* This spring break thing is sucking up my time.. I need to figure out what I am going to do come summer… or invest in some lights to use for filming. I’m sorry. Life happens. I actually am about to head out the door to bring my girls for haircuts and get some last minute Easter stuff. I can’t believe I haven’t even bought a dye kit yet.. Usually I’m so on top of the whole ‘holiday’ thing. I’m such a slacker. *hangs head*

See ya later!! Thanks for stopping by!

‘POP’ on over! – Doodlebug Design Stars & Stripes

Hello, lovelies! Today I have a fun ‘pop’ themed project to share with you all. All us Doodble DT girls have been busy bees creating fun projects using all the NEW collections! We’ve featured Flower Box, Fruit Stand, Stars & Stripes… and this week we are featuring Take Note! Oh, yes! I LOVE the Take Note colection! If you want to see it up close, check out the full video I did RIGHT HERE.

Since I am a week late in getting this posted, chances are (if you follow Doodlebug.. and you SHOULD!) you’ve seen this already.

So, my inspiration for this ‘pop’ project was one little Doodle-Pop sticker.

I thought to myself that it would be sooo cute to alter some soda bottles. They HAD to have red soda in them though.. so I sent my hubby on a mission. He’s such a good sport. Thankfully we found some red soda in our small town. I was shocked. MY town had something I needed?.. Unheard of. Really.

After I altered the soda bottles I just felt it needed more… and I have this ‘itch’ to use all my product on one project, LOL! (not really.. but sometimes it seems that way!). So I created a ‘pop’ theme and made a popcorn box and a little invitation. Perfect! I  am so happy with how it came out with all it’s Doodle-buggy cuteness.

Don’t eat any of that popcorn. I popped it almost a week before taking final photos, lol. It’s quite stale.

What do YOU call ‘soda’? We had a little discussion in the DB DT group.. I’ve always called it soda. Some call it ‘pop’.. and others call ALL soda ‘coke’.  Or.. maybe you call it carbonated sugar. lol. (I don’t care for soda at all)

The mini pinwheels are SO adorable! I love how they are already cut and you can easily put them together. Pinwheels are such a sweet spring/summer decoration.

The mini notecard (create-a-card) was PERFECT for the invitation! How cute would this be to bring to  a neighbor’s house to invite them over for some BBQ?…

Just make sure you use FRESH popcorn… or.. if you’re my neighbor. Cookies.. yes, cookies are always good..

As you can see this is a fabulous collection!  View the entire collection RIGHT HERE.

See ya later! And since I haven’t spammed it in awhile, if you haven’t already, please ‘like’ my Facebook page! It’s a good way to follow my blog and get all the updates.. plus I like to have other random chit-chat there that doesn’t happen on my blog.

What’s really goin’ on?..

Hey! How are YOU?! Oy.. it’s been a busy week for me.. I am so sorry to be a blogging slacker this week. I didn’t even do a video for you… I promise I will next week though! I am actually thinking of filming tomorrow to be ahead of the game.. now, if that actually happens though.. I dunno. I am sure I will film last minute, or even a day late! LOL!

So, what’s going on with me? Spring is in the air and I’ve been busy, busy! My family has been enjoying the fabulous weather we’ve had this past week! Lots of playing outside. Loving it! We’ve had picnics, baseball, soccer, bike and scooter riding… So fun! Every year I seem to forget how much I love the freshness of spring. I LOVE fall.. I truly enjoy the lovely snow and cuddly cozy feeling of winter.. but I also enjoy the ‘newness’ of spring. I could do without summer, lol. Well, summer evenings are amazing! But I am not much for sweat and HEAT. Bleh. Makes me sad thinking about the horrible runny, sticky makeup days I have coming in a few months. Although, I have new found appreciate for our hot, yet DRY heat. Going to Chicago last summer… ick. Just.. ICK. The day we all went to CHA was just too much for me, lol. I looked a mess with frizzy hair and red cheeks. Me no likey humidity.

So, now that I am done yappin’ about the weather, how ’bout them Dodgers?…

Speaking of Dodgers.. baseball.. I just registered my little dude for t-ball! I am pretty excited for him! I think he really needs it because he’s kind of a poor sport. He has never done any type of ‘sport’ on a team before. .. and I tell ya, this kid can not handle when he doesn’t catch the ball, can’t be first, etc. I am sure the first few weeks of t-ball I will be THAT mom with the poor sport crying child. Hhhhhh. I really don’t know where he gets it from, but I’m over it.. and I think t-ball will be perfect for him. I guess I blame myself for his whole ‘not being able to handle stuff’ issue. I have always done ‘preschool’ at home with my kids. It’s my way of keeping them ‘with me’ a bit longer. It’s worked well for my girls. But now I am questioning if my little guy was socialized enough. Who knows.. maybe it’s just HIM. He is one of the sweetest, loving and FUNNIEST children I’ve ever met. But he has to be first.. and he ‘has’ to win. Hmm, maybe it’s the third child thing.. with two older sisters? *shrugs* I just can’t wait to see him out there!

Easter is next weekend… and of course I made it into a Chrismas 2.0. I need to tell myself, “If it doesn’t fit IN their basket, it’s too much” I always go overboard.. I enjoy it, it’s who I am.. But it’s Easter. I really need to put some stuff I picked out away for birthdays or something. I do hope we have nice weather though. The past couple Easters have been so chilly for us. It’s no fun hunting for Easter eggs with frozen chocolate in them! We are having a lay ow easter and just staying home. My hubby actually has to work that day. There’s no ‘days off, doors are closed’ in his line of work.

….. And with Easter comes spring break! And one of the reasons I have been SO busy. My older daughter has been here and she keeps me on my toes. She’s almost 10 (next month, actually!).. I hear at least 10 times in an hour ‘I’m hungry’.. ‘I’m booooored’.

“So.. go eat a banana and look at the peel under the microscope..”

Or chores. Chores are always good. :)

I did take her shopping though. We went to Justice and she got to pick out some cute stuff. I scored 100 cool mama points for that! Anyone with a ‘tween’ girl or almost ‘tween’ knows that Justice is ‘the’ store. She earned it though. All A’s and one B on her report card. Very proud of her!

I have some fun activities planned next week so I am hoping she lays off me a bit. I am sorry, child.. I am not a one woman circus for your entertainment… although I feel like one sometimes, lol. We are going to bake, do some fun Easter things at our recreation center, make some paper crafts, girls are getting hair cuts, I have a photo shoot planned with my oldest, Autumn..  and of course we will dye eggs and such. Hoping to go see a movie, go to lunch, etc. too! If I hear an ‘I’m bored’ I might just burst!

So, who else has kiddos on spring break right now? What are YOU doing for boredom busters?..

OK, friends.. I am off for now! I will have a blog post up tomorrow for ya! I have been busy crafting up projects over here for Doodlebug, Carta Bella and Echo Park. I had a pretty ‘lay low’ month it seemed.. and now all my teams want to have due dates the same week.. LOL! I am pretty excited about the stuff I’ve been making though.. I also have an announcement coming up very soon.. *wink*… oh yes, and let’s not forget about some projects I’ve created for Bella Blvd.! Coming soooon!

See ya tomorrow!

Life is the bubbles! Pebbles ‘Party with Amy Locurto’ project

Hey there, friends! Happy Monday! I am FINALLY sharing my project I made with the adorable Pebbles product featured in my last What I’m Working With Wednesday video! (Check it out to see the OTHER goodies in the video!) Hooray! I got kinda busy this weekend so ‘extra’ projects had to be set aside while I finished up some ‘work’.

I think this came out so darn cute.. too cute, really! I love the cartoony look and colors. Now I for sure know I need to order more! I hate that I am drawn to so many styles of product. I love clean, fun, cutesy (like Doodlebug) I love designs somewhere in between (Echo Park, American Crafts (Pebbles) Little Yellow Bicycle, Simple Stories, etc.) and I love things that are more vintage (October Afternoon, Crate Paper..) This is a problem because I think I need.it.all. There are very few companies out thaere that I wouldn’t want to build a house with all their products and live in it…. I could totally make a couch outta Thickers! lol

Anyhow, here’s what I made, design details are posted below the pictures.

I totally wanna be on this card floating around with that pretty glitter.

And now the cute treat box..

Go on, scroll back up and look again! lol

I told you it was CUTE!

Here’s some design tips for ya:

  • Pebbles papers and stickers
  • I cut the card base from the Wet n Wild SVG Cuts kit. The front panel is cut with acetate and I filled it up with some chunky Doodlebug glitter. I made a special light blue border to go around the edges to cover the edge of my acetate, plus it just made it look more put together. It’s the details, peeps.. the details!
  • Over the white bubble stickers I added some glossy accents.. eeeek! I forgot how much I like this stuff on things like bubbles and such. I need to make more bubble projects!
  • The little sand dollar box is so.stinkin.cute. It’s also from SVG Cuts Wet n Wild kit! I sized it down a bit. The sand dollar is cut with Doodlebug sugar coated paper. Perfect look for a sand dollar! (I’m totally saying in my head, “A sand dollar, make me hollar!” lol I added some stickers, twine, and a button

That’s it! Makes me excited for summer… although, my body is a hot mess so that just means I need to get busy working out more. OK.. there’s actually nothing ‘hot’ about it, I’m just a darn mess… *wiggles arms* SEE! What IS that?.. *flap, flap, flap*

*le sigh*

Time for me to head outta here! You all take it easy.. I am off to ‘work’ some more! Lots of fun projects in the works and I can’t wait to share! Lots of goodies coming the first week of April!

Toodles.

Friday Favorites

Hey all! Welcome to my first Friday Favorites post! This will be a bi-weekly post every Friday showing you some of my current favorites! I even made a cute frame/graphic for it! Gold star sticker for me and my snazzy-ness.

Let’s see what I picked out! (totally typed ‘licked out’ at first, lol.)

  • 1). Noteworthy 12X12 Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm Paper - WHY? Hello awesome colors, prints, etc. I think this is just a gorgeous piece of paper! The entire collection is fantastic, but this pattern really stands out to me!
  • 2). Road Trip Icons – Chic Tags WHY? The travel theme is fantastic, colors are great.. love the muted tones! Graphics are super cute! Great for cards, scrapbooking and ‘project Life’ type work!
  • 3). Charcoal Sketchbook Snippets Printed Chipboard Thickers WHY? I just like the ‘sketchy’ look of these. Think they would go well with a LOT of lines! I picked up three packs myself! One to use, one to hoard, and one to lose in my mess of a craft room.
  • 4). Doodlebug Ditto Dots Washi Tape WHY? Color, color, and more COLOR! Throw some dots in the mix and it can’t get much better. Unless it came with coffee… and chocolate… and a cute persian kitten.
  • 5). Fiskars Stamp Press WHY? I recently discovered this and I am not sure how I stamped without one before… oh, that’s right. I did stamp just fine.. just looked like a toddler did it.. This helps with using multiple cling stamps at once and really helps me get  nice even pressure. You need this if you stamp!
  • 6). EP Happy Go lucky WHY? The color palette alone is drop dead gorgeous! And the element stickers are rockin’. Great for spring! *high five* (Look for an upcoming DT project from me with this collection!)

So, how’s that for eye-candy?… Do you like the idea of the ‘Friday Favorites’ post?… I do. What are YOUR favorite things out right now? Link ‘em up.. I might miss something awesome out there..

Have a great weekend!

Wednesday Video – 3/13/13

Yes, it’s a Wednesday video being posted on Thursday… I’m only three weeks in to this new series and already slacking!

Fired.

I DID try and do a video yesterday but it got too dark and the lighting was awful. I figured you’d all keep breathing even if I didn’t post a video… and you’re here now, so I guess I was right *wink*

I think I need to start doing these videos on Monday though, seriously. Between 1-3 takes, slight editing, foooooorever to upload a HD video.. by the time I finally get it posted, it’s midnight!

“Aien’t nobody got time for that!”

Have you all seen the ‘aien’t nobody got time for that’ lady? Hi-larious! LOL! I first saw that video on Tosh.0 (A TV show) and then next thing I knew it was the new ‘thing’. Little does that woman know, I’ve been saying that line for years.. because I really aien’t got time for NUFFIN’.

“Oh, heeeeeey… let’s start a weekly video series, Tamara” <— best.idea.ever.

Not.

But I’m gonna keep going.. I do like them AFTER they are done and I do get excited to share. It’s the stress of trying to not goof up and burp or something while filming.

I get heartburn you know.

I purposely starve before filming just for you.

Well, hopefully you all have time to watch my little 13 minute video showing you the new Pebbles ‘Party with Amy Locurto’ lines. I have a pool party, mermaid, and super hero collection. So different from the ‘usual’ themes you find now-a-days. I LOVE them!

So, check it out..

Please try to view it at the BEST QUALITY. And be patient and let the video load up before playing it. This will prevent the whole ‘freezing’ crud it does.

The video is embedded below, or you can watch it RIGHT FROM YOU TUBE and don’t forget to subscribe :)

alrighty, friends.. see you next week!

Byeeeee!

OH!!!.. Wait a sec… *chases you down*….. *tackles you*…. *takes your wallet*… lol just kidding on the ‘takes your wallet part’.

I’ll just take the whole purse.

LOL..

OK, really.. I wanted to mention that every other Friday I am going to be doing a Friday Favorites post. Should be fun! I will start tomorrow with just various things I like.. from recipes, crafty stuff, kid stuff, etc. Just a little something different to throw in the mix here and there. Can you tell I am trying hard to entertain you?.. That’s why I am writing this from my laptop.. on a tight rope.. wearing a hot pink tu-tu… with a dog balancing on my shoulders.

All for you..

You’re welcome.

See you tomorrow!
