Ahoy, crafty friends! Anyone out there enjoying the lovely weather? I have seen some photos of people with snow, so.. don’t start throwing snowballs at me if you’re one of the snowy places, but we’ve been having picture perfect spring weather here! I am loving it! Time for a spray tan so I don’t hurt peoples eyes with the pasty whiteness that grows below my waistline that I call ‘legs’.

Anyhow, the Echo Park team has been working on projects with the new ‘A Perfect Summer’ collection designed by Lori Whitlock.. and it is FAB! Totally gets me in the summertime mood… and craving a margarita. Mmm. I just finished up this totally awesome boat gift box.. This is made with the latest SVG Cuts kit! You can get this set FREE with the code FREEGIFT with your purchase of $9.98 or more! CHECK IT OUT and make your own boat!

So, slap on some sunscreen and a life vest (you’ll need it if I’m captain! lol) and come along on a little boat ride… it’s a row boat..  no fancy speed boats over here, lol.

I want at least 20 of those beach ball brads. SO CUTE!

Anchors are everywhere right now.. and as most things I talk about.. I’m loving them! I need one for my bathroom!…. and for that body I have in the closet.

What….?

I meant like.. a faux anchor tattoo or something…

This project will sit happily in my craft room to be admired by all who enter it… *back pats*.

OK, I have a child to go pick up from the bus stop.. but before I go, another back pat for me because I’m featured at Two Peas today! I am always shocked and surprised when this happens. I see my projects up there and I’m all like, “Who dis crazy cat that copied me.. oh, hell naw!”.. then I realize it’s MINE!

LOL….

Pretty cool, pretty.darn.cool. I also just saw it in their newsletter… coolness to the max, baby!

Go on.. get in line for autographs. Bring your own Sharpie.

OK, see ya’s later!

Doodlebug ‘insta-life’ album! Tips & Tricks

Hello, everyone! I’m so excited to show you the start of my fun ‘insta-life’ album! Smart phone photography is so quick and easy and so ‘in’ right now along with the popular Instagram app. I love sharing my photos on Instagram (follow me at happylifecraftywife), but sometimes it’s nice to have those photos in print, right? Well, I recently ordered a Canon Selphy CP 900 and it flawlessly prints 4×4″ Instagram photos. The quality is fantastic. Now that I have all these photos in print, I need to do something with them! That’s where the ‘Project Life’ Scrapbooking style comes in. I took my Doodlebug Swimming Pool Storybook 8×8 album and decided to use it just for my Instagram prints! It’s PERFECT!!! The Doodlebug Simply Put journaling cards make this one colorful and cute album.

To personalize this album a bit I created a vinyl decal. I used a free font called ‘Lobster 1.4′. It’s one of my favorite fonts right now. I cut this decal with orange Silhouette vinyl. The vinyl went on to my Storybook album perfectly!

When you open the album you’ll see a small 4×4″ screen shot of my Instagram account. I will probably switch this out every few months and just layer them over one another to document changes in followers, my profile photos, etc.

Behind the profile screenshot I added a divider pocket that I cut with my Silhouette Cameo. Looks awesome in those cute Dooodlebug ‘Take Note’ papers, doesn’t it? The pocket holds a printed Simply Put journaling card. I added a die cut tab to it with a button.

Pull it out and here’s what you see:

(Yes, my kids love instagram, too!) Do you like look of the PRINTED journaling card? I will have a short tutorial at the end of this post to show you how I did it!

When you turn the pocket divider, you’ll come to the first page. This one has 4 pockets that are 4×4″. This is my FAVORITE layout to use. I kept this page simple with a Simply Put card and some photos with a few stickers and a penguin Doodle-Pop. I whipped this up in no time! I love that the pocket pages and Simply Put cards make it SO easy to document everyday life.

The next page is a full 8×8 sleeve. I die cut a big Instagram camera and made it ‘interactive’ by adding a Doodlebug chunky brad to the lens to turn out of the way to expose a super cute picture of my son. Fun, right?

Another turn of the page and there’s a simple divider with the title of my album, ‘insta-life’. Just a touch of Doodlebug washi tape and a homemade flair badge to match.

Now for the last page (for now). I did a little die cutting here and used a Simply Put card. For the bottom 4×6 pocket I added a Doodlebug mini note card to create a simple interactive piece. I adhered the back of the card to my paper, trimmed a small photo to fit, then added some Doodlebug twine to close it. Untie it to see the cute photo! You can do this and add some journaling inside the card. I kept it simple with a sticker.

Here’s a list of the Silhouette cutting files I used:

Now for a quick tutorial to print on your own Simply Put cards!

  • STEP 1: Create a blank page in your editing program sized roughly to the area you will want to print on. This will vary depending on the size of your cards used, graphics on the card, etc. Once you have your text perfect, print it out onto a plain white paper.
  • STEP 2: Use a bit of double sided adhesive to layer your journaling card over the printed text.
  • STEP 3: Showing the journaling card layered over text. *TIP: Holding the paper and journaling card over a light box or window will help in lining it up or you can just eye it.
  • STEP 4: PRINT! Be sure to insert your paper into your printer the correct way so it feeds properly. I may, or may not have, printed on a card upside down the first time..

That’s it! VERY easy! I personally do not care for my writing so I will print on my journaling cards anytime I can… and being I don’t have a typewriter yet, this is the best way to do it. Plus you can change up your fonts and text colors which is really fun.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this ‘insta-life’ post and leave here with several ideas on incorporating your Doodlebug Design products into your own albums!I’d LOVE to hear what you think, if you have any tips to ‘pocket style’ layouts, etc.

See ya!

Altered Wooden Book Box w/ Mini Album – Carta Bella So Noted

Why, hello! *hands you a cup ‘o coffee*

I have some paper crafty goodness to share with you today.. of course. Because that’s what I normally share.

I am LOVING this project I designed for Carta Bella. The So Noted collection has got to be my favorite Carta Bella collection so far! I LOVE the vintage design and soft colors. So beautiful!

I found this wooden ‘book’ at Hobby Lobby a few months ago and it’s been hanging out waiting for the perfect papers to alter it with. When My Carta Bella DT box came I opened it up.. fondled the So Noted collection.. glanced at my wooden book… then I looked up to the heavens and said aloud, “It is time…” (in an overly dramatic voice, of course)

(I swear on my glitter stash that really happened!)

So, here’s the finished book box thingy.. a book with a drawer?.. I dunno, but it’s cute… and I swear on my Thickers stash you’ll love it. (And don’t pretend you don’t love it just to try and get ‘mah Thickers.)

My daughter looks so serious in that picture, but I love it because it is SO ‘her’.

Pull the drawer out and it perfectly fits the 4×6 journaling cards (made into a mini album)

As you can see, these patterns are stunning! I was pretty excited to find a perfectly matched seam binding to use, too! A light aqua blue. (Can’t remember where I got this one from)

You can check out THIS post on the Carta Bella blog to get the FULL supply list and design details.

I’d love to hear what you think! Do YOU prefer ‘altering’ over die cutting things like this? If you are big on die cutting you can find a 3D book cutting file from the Attic Treasures SVG Cuts Kit. Check it out and whip up your own book! If you want to alter the wood box, again, this is from Hobby Lobby (I’ve seen some at other craft stores)

OK, friends.. off ya go! Hope the rest of your week is fabulous! My next week and a half requires two dentists appointments.. GAH. Just when I was about to get Invisalign on April 12th, they find a small infection on a root canal I had done TWO years ago.. REALLY!!! I’ve been walking around with an infection for two years. How am I even alive still? Now they have to fix it up in two parts and my Invisalign impressions appointment has to be pushed back. I literally cried. I can’t win! I find out today if my insurance will even cover a re-treatment on that tooth since it’s been so long.. if not, I am out $900. Just shoot me now.. seriously. Pull all my darn teeth and slap some dentures in my face.

Done… Just D.O.N.E.

Wow.. venting much? LOL.. Ok, lovelies.. See ya! *waves*

Doodlebug ‘Take Note’ – Altered Clipboard

Lookie here! I have another Doodlebug project to share! I have been so excited to share this one. I created an altered clipboard with the fabulous ‘Take Note’ collection. I think this is my favorite from the new Doodlebug collections. The rainbow colors with touches of gray are fantastic! I love the whole ‘office’ type of theme it has.

I gotta admit, when I was making this project I was kinda worried about how it would come out. When I think ‘altered clipboard’ I think of more of a vintage style to it. But hey, it came together pretty darn cute with the bright ‘clean’ design. What do you think?

I LOVE the new mini pockets! And a mini pocket in the fabulous rainbow chevron print.. even better!

Lots of cute details here..  I layered on the paper, simply put journaling cards, stickers, doodle-pops, buttons, and some washi tape.

Be sure to stop by the Doodlebug Blog to check out the GIVEAWAY and see what the rest of the design team made! Super cute stuff, people!

Also.. although I PROMISED a new ‘What I’m Working With’ video this week… It’s not happening. *insert sad face here* This spring break thing is sucking up my time.. I need to figure out what I am going to do come summer… or invest in some lights to use for filming. I’m sorry. Life happens. I actually am about to head out the door to bring my girls for haircuts and get some last minute Easter stuff. I can’t believe I haven’t even bought a dye kit yet.. Usually I’m so on top of the whole ‘holiday’ thing. I’m such a slacker. *hangs head*

See ya later!! Thanks for stopping by!

‘POP’ on over! – Doodlebug Design Stars & Stripes

Hello, lovelies! Today I have a fun ‘pop’ themed project to share with you all. All us Doodble DT girls have been busy bees creating fun projects using all the NEW collections! We’ve featured Flower Box, Fruit Stand, Stars & Stripes… and this week we are featuring Take Note! Oh, yes! I LOVE the Take Note colection! If you want to see it up close, check out the full video I did RIGHT HERE.

Since I am a week late in getting this posted, chances are (if you follow Doodlebug.. and you SHOULD!) you’ve seen this already.

So, my inspiration for this ‘pop’ project was one little Doodle-Pop sticker.

I thought to myself that it would be sooo cute to alter some soda bottles. They HAD to have red soda in them though.. so I sent my hubby on a mission. He’s such a good sport. Thankfully we found some red soda in our small town. I was shocked. MY town had something I needed?.. Unheard of. Really.

After I altered the soda bottles I just felt it needed more… and I have this ‘itch’ to use all my product on one project, LOL! (not really.. but sometimes it seems that way!). So I created a ‘pop’ theme and made a popcorn box and a little invitation. Perfect! I  am so happy with how it came out with all it’s Doodle-buggy cuteness.

Don’t eat any of that popcorn. I popped it almost a week before taking final photos, lol. It’s quite stale.

What do YOU call ‘soda’? We had a little discussion in the DB DT group.. I’ve always called it soda. Some call it ‘pop’.. and others call ALL soda ‘coke’.  Or.. maybe you call it carbonated sugar. lol. (I don’t care for soda at all)

The mini pinwheels are SO adorable! I love how they are already cut and you can easily put them together. Pinwheels are such a sweet spring/summer decoration.

The mini notecard (create-a-card) was PERFECT for the invitation! How cute would this be to bring to  a neighbor’s house to invite them over for some BBQ?…

Just make sure you use FRESH popcorn… or.. if you’re my neighbor. Cookies.. yes, cookies are always good..

As you can see this is a fabulous collection!  View the entire collection RIGHT HERE.

See ya later! And since I haven’t spammed it in awhile, if you haven’t already, please ‘like’ my Facebook page! It’s a good way to follow my blog and get all the updates.. plus I like to have other random chit-chat there that doesn’t happen on my blog.

Gettin’ fruity! A bushel basket with 3D fruit & mini note cards!

This week on the Doodlebug Blog (be sure to stop by the DB blog for a GIVEAWAY!!) we are featuring the delicious FRUIT STAND collection! This collection is SO cute! LOVE the pops of purple, the little cute fruits, everything! I could just eat it all up! Nom-nom-nom.

*smiles* do I have any Doodle-Pops stuck in my teeth?…

So, of course with this collection I right away think FRUIT! So I wanted to make a fruit basket.. then decided to make little note cards for them to make it a little more special and unique.

Now, seriously.. is that not adorable?… I really think it’s one of my favorite projects so far this year!

I used Doodlebug’s Create-a-Card system for my note cards. Quick? Easy? Cutenes overload? check. CHECK!

That cherry card is my fav! I LOVE that Doodle-Pop sticker. The ‘So Sweet’ sentiment is done with rub-ons.. which I’ve come to.. you guessed it, LOVE! lol

I stuck a brad over a button here… kinda cute, eh?

There’s another Doodle-Pop! (the sun.. so cute!) ’Sweet Summer’ flags stuck onto wood picks and tucked behind the bow. These cute fruits sure do make this a SWEET project.

To make this sweetness yourself, here’s what you’ll need:

I believe that’s everything! You can also make this your own twist with what you have on hand!

OK my crafty friends.. I’m outta here! As always, thank you for stopping by! Let me know what you think! Are YOU crafting for summer yet?… It just snowed over here and I’m already working on 4th of July stuff! Crazy-sauce right there.. LOL! I’m also about to work on some Halloween cards to submit for publishing. This off season crafting feels odd.. but it’s fun!

See ya!

Well, well.. look who it is.. I’ve been expecting you! Yes, really!! Did you bring me coffee? You DID?! Awesome.

Here we are, another round of a fabulous design team blog hop with the Carta Bella girls! I hope you’ve been inspired and have loved the projects you’ve seen so far!

Today I have a vacation photo box to share. This was super quick and fun to create. I used the AMAZING ‘Well Traveled’ collection for this. This collection has got to be one of the best travel lines I’ve seen! I love the colors and vintage feel to the graphics. To create this I used a Lori Whitlock cutting file which you can find HERE.

Purty darn cool! And totally useful! You can make several ‘themes’ to store extra photos that may not make it to scrapbook albums and such. Perfect!

I am pretty much in love with this camera die cut. I got the shape in the Silhouette store. Added the ‘New York’ sticker with an Epiphany Crafts epoxy over it to create a ‘lens’. Then I added on some tiny brads and gray cord to make a camera strap. Um, yeah. Hello awesome idea! So happy to have met you!  You should come around more often!

*high five* for scrumptious embellies! I am so into brads right now. I think I might just start calling my husband Brad. Yeah. That’ll work.

Did’ja know Carta Bella’s ‘Well Traveled’ collection has WASHI TAPE! I added a little taste of it here and there to my box. Those cool roller stamps (arrows and cameras) are from Glitz Design. Really neat and I am glad I snagged them!

Alrighty, now for my BONUS giveaway. I am giving away a Well Traveled 6×6 paper pad, layered stickers, AND a pack of three washi tapes! I will chose a winner from my blog comments AND Facebook page. Hey there! I’m back with Little Yellow Bicycle as a ‘Just Because’ cycling team member! You can check out the blog post HERE. Scroll through the LYB blog and see all the fabulous designs by the DT and cycling team! So much inspiration.

This collection is quite lovely! It has a unique color palette.. A bit different from the ‘norm’. A coral-ish red, navy blue, small touches of lavender… really nice!

JB-30

The moment I saw it all in person I knew I wanted to make something with a coffee or tea theme. I am ALWAYS inspired by the theme of papers/stickers. So, I made a tea cup! Almost looks real with the added saucer!

I added a dowel with some pretty rosettes, chipboard, 3D bow and stick pins. Fun, huh? You can make one too with the SVG Cuts Tea For You and Me kit. Add some bags of tea, cookies, etc. for a perfect gift!

Next up is a cute and simple vellum strip card. I LOVE LYB’s vellum strips!

I love how much there is to play with in the Just Because collection! You really can take it so many different ways from girlie and cute, vintage, Valentine-ish, etc.

Whatcha’ think? You can view the entire collection HERE.

Before you leave, I want to mention that LYB is having a NATURALS contest! Remember the adorable altered pitcher I shared recently showing off the Naturals? Hopefully that sent you all running to your nearest craft store to get some for yourself! If so, take a look at the contest! It runs through March 17th so you have plenty of time to enter! MORE DETAILS HERE.

Echo Park ‘SCOOT’ Birthday Truck

I have been so excited to share this project using Echo Park’s SCOOT collection!

I created this back for EP’s booth at winter CHA… It’s really hard for me to not share things right away! Anyone else like that?

Scoot is such an amazing boys collection! I was SO inspired by the cute papers and stickers. I thought a cute birthday boy centerpiece would be fantastic.. but what shall I make?

Of course I fall back to my trusty SVG Cuts files! The Ryan’s Play Date SVG Kit has a perfectly adorable little truck.. and then my birthday boy truck was born! (After a rough 1.5hrs of labor.. pain med free, too!.. LOL!)

So, here it is.. vroom-vroooom!

  • DESIGN NOTE: Cut the SVG Cuts truck files AS SIZED. I added a button over each wheel and little star stickers on the headlights. You can also use acetate for the windows so they are clear!

CUTE, CUUUUTE! Seriously. What little boy wouldn’t LOVE this?!

I added some gumballs in the back.. The back of the truck is perfect for little treats.

I wanted to jazz it up even more, so I added a rosette onto a dowel and adhered it inside the truck. Added a touch of twine, buttons, ‘flying’ plane, and some more stickers..  The perfect finishing touch!

When I was working on this project I thought of all the cute party decor you could make! Hats, cupcake wrappers, etc. You could get the digital collection and print away all the papers you’d need! I seriously love how Echo Park papers are just SO inspiring to me.

Before I let you go, I wanted to invite you to join the Echo Park design team next Monday, FEB 18TH! The DT will be showing off some fun projects with the latest Echo Park collections! Hope you’ll join us!

Have a great weekend! My birthday is tomorrow so my weekend should be FUN! I am turning 30.. eeek! THIRTY!
