Peppermint Brownie Pops Recipe

So.. I was at Starbucks, yet again.. and had a sweet tooth….. Umm.. yet again.. so I decided to try their peppermint brownie pop. I died. In a good way… lol. It was so yummy with the slightest peppermint flavor. A PERFECT treat for the holidays. However, at $1.50 each.. eh. Not something I would get often.. and I surely wouldn’t gift them to anyone! MINE!

However, my inner Betty Crocker was screaming “You can maaaaake them yourseeeelf”.

So, that’s what I did! And um.. mine taste better! BROWNIE POPS FOR ALL!

The downside to this. I have a pile of them in my house right now! GAH!

(Is that not a delish picture?…. *pats myself on the back*)

I have created a recipe and a little ‘how-to’ for all you who wanna indulge a bit this holiday season!… Or hide in your closet shoving them down your throat. Either way, enjoy! So get outta those skinny jeans and slide into some stretchy waist pants and let’s get started!

Stuff ya need:

  • Betty Crocker fudge brownie mix. ‘family’ size… (we all know we don’t share with these ‘family’ people. We enjoy the guilt of eating the whole pan to ourselves right?.. ) Anyhow, I found this brand works best. Then again, I only tried one other mix before this one. If ya wanna be all fancy and such, make ‘em from scratch!
  • Oil, eggs, candy canes, Wilton white chocolate candy melts, clear sugar sprinkles
  • Lollipop sticks
  • 9×9 baking pan (or 8×8)
  • A treadmill… to burn off the first batch you somehow consume in less than 24 hours.
  • Christmas music

How-to:

  • Bake the brownies! Make them DEEP. 9×9 or 8×8. This makes less ‘crusty’ parts that don’t mix well into the ‘smooshed’ brownies. For the Betty Crocker fudge brownies, I used 1/4c LESS oil than recommended. Crush up 2-3 candy canes really fine and mix into the batter. Bake as directed.
  • Once the brownies cool, scoop out the center. Again, avoid the ‘crusty’ edge parts. You don’t really want that mixed into the pops because it creates a weird texture and the balls won’t roll as nicely.
  • Roll ‘em up! Roll the brownies into 1.5″ balls… I won’t judge if you roll yourself ‘special’ 3″ balls. Set onto a plate with a sheet of wax paper over it. Stick a lollipop stick about 3/4th way into the brownie balls and then FREEZE. This is key to ‘perfect pops’. You’ll see!….
  • Once they are frozen, leave them in the freezer while you crush up some candy canes (4-5 works fine for a batch) and melt your white chocolate. Be VERY careful not to ‘burn’ the white chocolate as you’re melting because it won’t ‘run off’ the pops as nicely. If the white chocolate stays thick on the pop it’s just WAY too sweet and harder to bite into.
  • Take 3-4 pops out of the freezer at one time. You’ll want them to stay as firm as possible or you’ll have pops sliding off the stick, etc. trust me, I am a pro at this now.. I didn’t get this big ‘ol butt by eating carrot sticks, people!
  • Dip pops one at a time into the white chocolate. WORK FAST, the frozen pops will set the chocolate pretty fast! When you dip, make sure you cover all the way to the base where the pop meets the stick. This will ‘seal’ it onto the stick really well.
  • To get a smooth finished look, gently tap the stick onto the dipping bowl as you slowly rotate the pop. Once you notice it starting to set, add some sprinkles and candy cane chunks. Then set the pop aside to firm up! if ya do this right, the chocolate will NOT drop.

TIP: If you have a piece of styrofoam handy this works GREAT to stick the pops in while the chocolate sets. You can grab a 5×5 square piece from the dollar store, that’s what I use!

  • Simply continue those steps until each pop is done.

That’s it! They look so pretty when done! Create a gift basket by sticking a piece of styrofoam into the basket and creating a pretty pop arrangement. I plan on putting little baggies and ribbons over each one to send in to the school for the teachers. Yummy, yum!

Enjoy and thanks so much for stopping by!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Cute and easy treat bag!

Hey! How’s it going?… Did you all have a nice weekend? I have been prepping and getting some ideas together for all my DIY Halloween decorations I have planned! Did you know I have a full week of Halloween fun that’s gonna be happening here in September? (So you have plenty of time to get Halloween projects done!) More info to come later, but I have some sponsors lined up and will have giveaways all week! I am pretty excited! I will have paper crafts, treat ideas, and DIY decor ideas! Hope you’ll stop by!

Anyhow, since I have Halloween on the brain….. “Mmmmm… Braiiiiiiins” I decided to make a cute and SIMPLE treat bag! I pulled out some fun stamps, my Big Shot, circle framelit dies and got busy!

Photobucket

Did I mention it was simple? Sometimes we all NEED simple, right?

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I love the stitched twine.. cute stamps and the buttons… and yes, even that black licorice that most people hate!.. lol

Here’s some detail shots on how I made it!

Supplies:

Photobucket

  • To create the window on my bag I inserted a framelit die into the bag with the cuting side facing the front of the bag. Line it up the best you can. I held mine up to the window to see through it and get my placement just right!

Photobucket

  • Emboss a piece of acetate for the window.

Photobucket

  • Eat a Twinkie.

(LOL! Yes.. I was eating a twinkie.. or tried to.. I haven’t had one in awhile and YUCK! Nevermind that mess…)

Photobucket

  • Ink the edges in gray. Colorbox ‘Antique Pewter’ is my FAVORITE gray for Halloween projects!

Photobucket

  • I cut a scalloped frame with my Sizzix eclips from SVG Cuts ‘Scalloped Shapes’ collection. I used a medium circle frame sized to 3.162″. This will fit perfectly over the opening when you use the 3″ framlits die.

Then begin stamping! Embellish with buttons and fill up the bag with treats! (or, if you’re cheap like me and only had 2  1/2 pieces of black licorice).
Photobucket

  • To close up the bag I stitched over the twine on the front and through the bag, and then wraped the twine around and tied a bow with a stamped tag! Cuteness!

That’s it! A cute and fun way to package treats… and use stamps that you may or may not be hoarding.. or.. ‘collecting’.

Oh.. and when I said I used 2 1/2 pieces of licorice.. I wasn’t kidding. Here you can see when it slipped down and exposed it’s ripped apart self! LOL!!!

Look for a post tonight for the Echo Park blog hop winner! :)

Gettin’ pushy with push cakes!

I am SO excited about this project!

Cute colorful yummy treats AND cute colorful Halloween paper and embellishments? Ahhh.. YES! Me likey a LOT! I think it’s weird to sit here and go on and on about how much I loooove my own project, so… I won’t do that. I mean, if I hated it, I probably wouldn’t be showing you (trust me, I have a few of those around here..)

I really do love it though.. LUV IT! *insert pink fluffy floating hearts here*

So, last night I posted on my FACEBOOK showing you these cute new Bella Blvd. ‘Too Cute to Spook’ papers I got… I also had some weird plastic tubes and a block of styrofoam. Some of you didn’t know what those snazzy little tubes were for.. Well, now ya do! Or.. errr.. maybe ya don’t? lol. TUBE CAKES! HelloOOoooo, handy dandy cutesy awesomeness! They are EASY to make and even easier to eat! Great for holidays, birthdays, to stuff your face when your ‘Aunt’s’ in town and you need chocolate before you rip someones head off… Not saying I get like that or anything.. I’m the girl ’Happy’ life.. (really, it’s just a coverup.. I’m terribly grumpy.. Grrrrr.. Get off my lawn!) Pfffft!

I was going to do a photo tutorial showing how I made the push cakes, but.. it was dark and I didn’t have good lighting. I will just give some tips and explain at the bottom of this post. But before that, you need to see more pictures.. lots, LOTS more.. I couldn’t help it! I want to make sure you see all the cuteness, and if you’re slightly blind, I have to share close ups.. see, I’m just thinkin’ of ya!… and if I make your belly growl or perhaps you start salivating, then extra points for me! Yes, I get points for your drooling.. I know, I know.. I have a messed up ‘points’ system.

Now, scoot your chair closer to the computer screen… and dig in! Or, if you’re on an iPad, laptop, etc. place it on your chest and get to scrollin’!

Photobucket

Oh, yeah! Three of my favorite hobbies combined! Baking, paper crafting, and eating! Oh, eating’s not a hobby?… Especially calorie packed crud in a tube?.. Drats!

I wish you all could have seen my girls’ faces when they came home and saw this little masterpiece!

I bought this pack of sprinkles at Target and they match the paper perfectly!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Soooo… what do ya think? (AKA: leave me a comment! lol)

OK, so as I mentioned earlier, I didn’t do a tutorial for this, but I will give you some details to help you get started! (And yes, I am SO making a Christmas and Thanksgiving one!  I have a CUTE idea for a turkey setting for push cakes! Whoo-hoo!) So, here’s some deets:

THE CAKE and FROSTING:

  • I alter my box cakes and they come out tasting homemade! Try these steps.. 1). Use chocolate cake mix with 3-4 full squirts of black Americolor food coloring (this is the BEST food coloring!) 2). Mix in 1-2tsp cocoa powder, use melted REAL butter in place of oil, use MILK in place of water, use eggs as stated on the box and add in 1 small pack of INSTANT chocolate pudding mix. Beat on medium for about 3 minutes. It WILL be thick.. and yuuuuummy! And just so you know, raw cake batter is protein (you know.. eggs and milk!).. it’s almost healthy!.. Yeah… that’s a lie, lol. Bake as directed in a 9×13″ dish.
  • Once the cake is done, let it cool a bit and remove it from the baking dish. Once the cake is completely cooled, use a cake level (or a good ol’ knife) and cut the cake in half. I squish the cake down a bit to make it a bit more dense and easier to cut. It also helps to chill it for about an hour.
  • Use a push cake tube as your ‘cutter’ and cut a bunch of little circles. (You can get tubes from eBay, Etsy, online party supply stores, etc.)
  • For the frosting. I use homemade buttercream and colored it to match the paper with Americolor food coloring. You can also buy canned vanilla and color it!
  • Start stacking! Push down a layer of cake.. then use a piping bag with tip and squeeze in some frosting. Push in another cake layer so it smushes the frosting to the edges… repeat and top with a bit of frosting and sprinkles!
  • Try not to lick your fingers.. lol. YUM!

THE BOX DISPLAY:

  • I used a 4×4″ block of styrofoam, cut in half and glued together. Finished size will be 8x4x2
  • Trim paper to fit for outter part. Decorate and such.. do your thing! As you can see, I used a bunch of stickers from Bella Blvd ‘Too Cute to Spook’ and Bo Bunny ‘Whoo-ligans’. They match well!
  • I used 20g black jewelry wire to make some of the stickers ‘springy’ and stand out.
  • Use 3 dowel rods to hold up the ‘treats’ banner. (break one rod in half and hot glue it to one full sized rod) I made these even more sturdy by gluing on chip board elements. Stick this about an inch into the styrofoam. It helps to hot glue them in!
  • Also, make holes for the cake pops with one of the push cake handles that you didn’t fill with cake. I made the mistake of trying to shove an already made push cake into the strofam and ended up pushing the cake up.. yeah I know, imagine THAT.. I pushed the handle up and the push cake pushed up.. lol! So, I had to whip up another one.. *grumble, grumble*

That’s about it! SUPER easy to do and so much fun to decorate! You can go ALL out.. or keep it simple! The good thing is I can use this more than once as I made it so the push cake sleeves slip right off!

Well, folks.. this is one long blog post now. Thanks so much for stopping by! I will be quiet over here for a few days as I finish up these projects for Echo Park.. try not to miss me too much! *wink*.. Wait.. is it kinda creepy to wink at you?… Does it weird you out?.. It does?.. Oh.. :( Well, I won’t tell you I was making a kissy face at the same time, because that would be REALLY, really weird.

See ya!

Boneyard Brownies…

Photobucket

… Yes. for my boneheads.. and by ‘boneheads’, I mean children… And by ‘children’ I mean MONSTERS!!! (Yeah, it was one of THOSE mornings here today!)

I found this cute candy mold at Joann’s recently and loved the little brownines shown on the front and I HAD to make them!

They were super easy to make, and the boneheads were so excited about them!

Here’s some more pictures.. Yummy! Please, do not lick your computer screen!

Photobucket

Yup.. that’s my fat head you see reflected on the plate. Doh!

Photobucket

Photobucket

The bones are so cool! Dontcha’ think?!

Photobucket

See that yummy gooey texture?…. Mmmmm!

Here’s how I made them:

  • You will need two boxes of brownies. Bake one and let it cool. Bake the other in a 9×13″ dish, or something close to that size. You don’t really want thick brownies because you’re going to pile more on top.
  • For the first batch of brownies, once they are cool, dump about 3/4 of them into a bowl and mix with about 3/4 can frosting. I used fudge, but I think vanilla would be yummy, too! This is your ‘mud’.
  • Cut your brownies. To use the bones like I did I found it best to cut them to about 2″ wide and 3 – 3.5″ long. I made a few smaller ones for the kiddos and just added 1-2 bones in a pile.
  • Once your brownies cool, add on the ‘mud’. This is fun for the kiddos because it doesn’t have to be neat!
  • Then, melt your candy melts (I used Wilton in Spooky Green!) and fill the candy mold. I did this four times and had more than enough bones!
  • Decorate the brownies! Easy peasy! And they look super cool, too!

Of course you can be all awesome and stuff and bake your own brownies and make your own frosting, but since I was being lazy (Hmm, I feel like I write “I was being lazy” too much lately.. lol)  I used all boxed stuff. Yes, I cheat..

Anyhow, just wanted to share! I have some other little spooky treats planned! Better get a jump start on your working out now because from now through the holidays I will be sharing all sorts of yumminess! ;)

Also, I want to mention that the challenge I am hosting with Lori Whitlock is still going! Baby Shower Onesie Favors

Whoo-hoo! It’s my first design team project for My Craft Spot! This weeks challenge is ‘Bundle of Joy’ and Kimberly is giving away 5 spools of bakers twine! Please stop on by her blog and check it out!

Here is my project! I did something simple and cute with her awesome stamps and gorgeous crinkle ribbon! These would be great for baby shower favors!

Now, I wish I could tell you were I found the onesie SVG file, it was a freebie and now I can’t find it anywhere! But you can make this work with any onesie file or Cricut cartridge cut! I just love this particular file with the ruffle sleeves! :)

I opened my SVG file in SCAL and welded two onesies together. I also added holes to pull my ribbon through to tie the bow. You can add little bags of mints, chocolate, etc. inside and the onesie will fold over it. Super easy! I only had jelly beans.. so that is what I used! lol..

I hope you like them! I had fun making them with those pretty papers! The papers are a mix of October Afternoon Thrift Store and some from October Afternoon 5 & Dime.

OK, I’m out! I was standing on my feet cooking Easter dinner all day.. Mmmm.. But, I am TIRED and have some testing I have to get done tomorrow (bleh!) so this will be kept short and sweet! Check back in a few days, I will have a little teacher appreciation project to share plus a design team project for RAH Scrapbooking! Yippie!

Toodles!

Presents and cupcakes…

Who wouldn’t be happy?..

My kids were sooo excited when they saw what I left out for them! I decided to give them some Valentine’s goodies to enjoy the entire month of February! My girls got some cute jammies, headbands, jewelry, candy, stickers, pencils, Lalaloopsy outfit, etc. My little guy got some jammies, trains, cars.. more cars and some other little things. I found the cutest little pup’s in a cupcake at Target! They were a huge hit with my girls :)

I also made some cupcakes.. they were kinda rushed but they still came out cute and taste soooo good! I sent all but 3 of them to work with hubby so I wouldn’t be tempted. The guys at hubbys work are starting to expect thinsg lately, LOL! I am always baking just to do it.. we eat a little of it and then send it off to co-workers. Hopefully I will get a chance to make cookies soon. I want to make some pretty heart sugar cookies.

Photobucket

How cute are these jammies? They say ‘Hug Me’! (from Gymboree)

Doesn’t that frosting look YUMMY?! Of course it does (unless you don’t like sweets! *gasp!*)

Make is EXACTLY like it says! You will get perfect frosting! It’s not overly sweet but has a true buttery buttercream flavor.

Saddle bags, here I come!

Oy.. this holiday season got me up 2lbs!! Eeeeks! Tisk-tisk. I wanted to share these two delish recipes with you all!

A tradition in our house for breakfast Christmas morning has been homemade cinnamon rolls! Oh… my…. Love me some cinnamon rolls.. and um, homemade right from the oven? *drool* Complete with cream cheese frosting. I don’t ‘do’ cream cheese but this frosting is to-die-for! I use THIS RECIPE

Photobucket

Mine might look a  little odd… but, that’s because I ate the outer part of the roll before taking a picture, LOL.

I follow the recipe but I do make extra frosting! Also, a little tip! After the come out of the oven, flip your baking dish upside down with the rolls inside. This let’s the gooey yummies drip down into the cinnamon rolls! I flip mine over wax paper and leave them for about 15 minutes.

They are AWESOME!!

Now.. onto something easier to make. Yet, they taste devine!

OREO TRUFFLES

You will be everyone’s favorite person at your next party if you make these! They are best cold and right from the fridge!

Photobucket

The hardest part making these…. crushing the Oreo’s! I beat them and crushed them any way I could. It took awhile (because you want them to be pretty fine) But, all the beating was worth it! I am pretty sure my own mother wanted to marry me after trying these!

Mmm, good!

The Christmas season has kept me busy!

Whew! No time to craft or blog lately :( No fun!

I’ve been baking like crazy for what seems like the past week! I gave several people gift baskets and man, it was a lot of work! Not to mention that buying them probably would have been cheaper! LOL! I plan to come back and do an update of our past 2 weeks or so with some pictures!

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas!

I will leave ya with a picture of the gift basket I made my mom.. she also got a platter of bread and treats!

Photobucket

Can ya guess what I will be doing for the next few days?

Photobucket

Baking my little heart out!

We’re going to my in-laws on Friday for the weekend to do a little pre-Christmas get-together and I am going to make them all gain a few pounds with some yummy treats!

I got the peppermint bark done! Sugar cookie dough and gingerbread dough are chilling.. going to roll out and bake tonight! I will share pics of all the goodies with recipes later!

Photobucket

Mmmmmm…..
